Each year, PhD students must submit to the PhD Coordinator (President of the Doctoral Program Committee) a report of research and educational activities carried out in the previous year and a proposal of research and educational activities (including courses, seminars, conferences and graduate schools) for the subsequent year. The report and the proposal must be approved by the Doctoral Program Committee. The doctoral program requirements emphasize depth in methodology as well as mastery of fundamental and applied concepts. Each doctoral student must construct a doctoral program in agreement with the faculty mentor, indicated as supervisor or tutor, using the doctoral program form. At the end of each year, the Doctoral Program Committee examines the accomplishments of each doctoral student, also based on the program proposal, and decides whether a doctoral student is admitted to the next year.

At the beginning of the first year, PhD students must:

  • send PhD program proposal for the first year to the PhD Coordinator, including planned educational activities. The form can be downloaded here.

At the end of the first year (mid October), PhD students must:

  • send PhD report of activities carried out in the first year to the PhD Coordinator, according to the report form that can be downloaded here,
  • send PhD program proposal for the second year to the PhD Coordinator, including planned educational activities, according to the program proposal form that can be downloaded here,
  • give an oral presentation of the activities carried out in the first year to the Doctoral Program Committee, according to the presentation form that can be downloaded here.

Output is pass/nonpass to the PhD second year, together with the approval of the PhD report of research activities, including recognition and allocation of CFU for the educational activities, and the PhD program proposal for the second year.

At the end of the second year (mid October), PhD students must:

  • send PhD report of activities carried out in the second year to the PhD Coordinator, according to the report form that can be downloaded here,
  • send PhD program proposal for the third year to the PhD Coordinator, including planned educational activities, according to the program proposal form that can be downloaded here,
  • give an oral presentation of the activities carried out in the second year to the Doctoral Program Committee, according to the presentation form that can be downloaded here.

Output is pass/nonpass to the PhD third year, together with the approval of the PhD report of research activities, including recognition and allocation of CFU for the educational activities, and the PhD program proposal for the third year.

At the end of the third year:

  1. October 15th of the third year: PhD students send final reports of activities carried out in the three years to the PhD Coordinator, according to the report form that can be downloaded here, and give an oral presentation of the activities carried out in the three years to the Doctoral Program Committee, according to the presentation form that can be downloaded here.
  2. October 30th of the third year: Doctoral Program Committee evaluates the activities of the PhD students for admission to the final exam. For each thesis, the Doctoral Program Committee nominates at least two external assessors
  3. Within November 30th after the third year: PhD students admitted to the final exam, must apply for admission to obtain the PhD degree by submitting the appropriate form available at www.univaq.it to the PhD Office. http://www.univaq.it/section.php?id=445
  4. Within December 31th after the third year: Doctoral Program Committee evaluates PhD theses
  5. January 15th after the third year: Coordinator or Responsible of each curriculum sends PhD theses and final reports to external assessors
  6. February 28th after the third year: external assessors must submit their recommendations. When major revisions are required, PhD students must submit revised version of their theses within 6 months from the date of reception of the recommendations by the external assessors
  7. March 31th after the third year: PhD candidates admitted to the final exam, must send to the PhD office an electronic version of their theses and final reports. Subsequently, PhD candidates must send an electronic copy of their thesis and of their report to the PhD final exam Committee
  8. In the case of a major revision recommendation from the external assessors, after having received the reports from external assessors on the revised version of their thesis, the PhD students must submit their thesis within one month from the date of reception of the second assessment, by following the guidelines at point 7

Note: Deadlines above are for PhD students enrolling on November 1st.

Output is admission to the PhD defence, together with approval of the PhD report of research activities, including recognition and allocation of CFU for the educational activities.
