The STPIS Spirit: Beyond the Algorithm
STPIS is not just another “publish or perish” event. Our core philosophy is built around a highly interactive, community-driven, and supportive environment. Guided by the perspective of “Beyond the Algorithm: Reclaiming the ‘Social’ and ‘Human’ in Information Systems,” we focus on less stiff formal presentations and more on collaborative growth and deep-dive discussions. It is the perfect transdisciplinary bridge between computer science, sociology, psychology, management, and cybersecurity. If your work feels “too social” for purely technical venues or “too technical” for social sciences, STPIS is your home.
Main Themes This Year
We invite contributions that explore how technology reshapes our social and organizational fabric, covering key areas such as:
- Digitalization & Digital Transformation
- AI, ChatBots & Smart Working
- Cybersecurity, Physical Security & Information Security
- Ethics, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) & Gendered Technology Issues
- Health Informatics & Human Resource Management
- Sustainability & Information Warfare
- Dealing with Complexity and Complicatedness & Facilitation of Excellence
Key Features & Diversity of Submissions
We strongly believe that a socio-technical perspective is vital to solving modern IT and organizational challenges. To capture the full spectrum of this discourse, we welcome a wide variety of submission types, including:
- Academic Research Papers & Case Studies
- Work-in-Progress
- PhD and Post-Graduate Research
- Industrial Research and Professional Practices
- Practitioner-oriented non-academic contributions and “tales from the trenches”
A unique feature of STPIS is our dedicated Industrial Workshop, which utilizes an interactive clinic format where researchers and industry leaders collaborate to brainstorm solutions for real-world organizational challenges in real-time.
The Venue: L’Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026
The 2026 edition offers a truly unique experience. The conference will be held at the historic Palazzetto dei Nobili in the heart of L’Aquila—proudly designated as the Italian Capital of Culture 2026. This intimate, heritage-rich setting is designed to encourage spontaneous networking over authentic Italian espresso and our traditional Scandinavian “Fika” breaks, rather than the cold atmosphere of crowded convention halls.
